IMESIDE
The trio of Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State will alongside prominent traditional rulers in the South- West, will co-host the annual cultural celebration of the six Imesi kingdoms tagged, Imeside Diaspora Festival 2013.

The event which is scheduled to take place between August 16 and 17, 2013 at Imesi-Ekiti, Ekiti State is being put together by a non-governmental organisation, Imeside Diaspora Initiative (IDI), as a platform for co-ordinating, harmonising and promoting the socio-cultural and historical interests of Imesi-Ile, Imesi-Ekiti, Okemesi-Ekiti, Imasayi, Imesi-Isale and the Olu-Isa kingdom of Ijebu-Ode A special lecture titled, “Imeside, Yesterday, Today and tomorrow,” will be delivered by Chief MAO Oyeniyan, followed by a rich cultural display by various cultural troupes from all nooks and crannies of Yoruba land..

 

The brain behind the IDI and coordinator of the programme, Prince Kola Bamigbade, told National Mirror that the event aims at providing a forum to bring the various Imesi monarchs, political leaders, sons and daughters both within and outside the country together for a re-union, unity and familiarisation celebration as well as rekindle the bond of affinity among them.

According to him, the occasion would also be used to present The IMESI: Second Cradle of Yoruba Kingdoms, a book authored by him, chronicling the history, life and achievements of the Imesi kingdoms.

The Asiwaju of Yorubaland, General Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd) would chair the occasion; while the Ooni of Ife, HIM Oba Okunade Sijuade; the Alaafin of Oyo, HRM Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III; Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, HRM Oba Adekunle Aromolaran and the Awujale of Ijebuland, HRM Oba Sikiru Adetona, are among the foremost traditional rulers that will grease the occasion.
